This year, the decision to hold the International BOR meeting outside of the US was made to be in compliance with the By-Laws and was conducted in Seoul, Korea. In addition, this year also happens to be the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Academy. This meeting was also the culmination of a long series of Global CE Symposiums to celebrate the 50th anniversary. Dr. Jacob Park, President of ADI, has been attending and providing the CE courses to all the sections globally to promote ADI and to revitalize the Sectional activities that had become dormant during the COVID pandemic. The funding of this program was supported by Grants from the ADI Foundation and ADI funds.

Asia Pacific Section hosted the CE symposium and the Annual Board meeting with the convocation of three new inductees into the Academy. The work put in by the Section led by Regent, Dr. Chang-Young Ahn, and V. Regent, Dr. Jung Suk Han, along with their colleagues, made for a very enlightening and successful gathering in Seoul. Regents from Asia Pacific, Philippines, Africa, USA, C. America, S. America, Mexico, and Europe (represented by Dr. Seeberger) attended and made this a truly International meeting. Two of the Regents who planned to attend could not do so. Dr. Suzuki had to cancel his trip on account of an automobile accident and Dr. Kaveh Seyedan could not get his travel papers due to the political turmoil in Korea just before the meeting.

On December 7th, the CE symposium was held at the Seoul National University School of Dentistry. This was a joint undertaking by ADI, SNU, and the Korean Government fund for the development of medical devices. The lectures included:

Dr. Ji Man Park: Critical performance and effective clinical utilization of intraoral scanners.

Director TaeGeun Son: Artificial intelligence (AI) and digital dentistry.

Dr. Seoung-Jin Hong: A study of #D accuracy of oral scan data using Stereophotogrammetry facial scanner.

Taehan Kim from Vatec: Next-Generation CT technology for dental diagnosis.

Dr. Soo Bok Her: Introduction of K-Dental device display site in China.

In between, there was a discussion on the topics spoken between the ADI board members and the International Academy for Digital Dental Medicine (IADDM) members.

Following this, the Asia Pacific arranged lunch at HanMoChon, a family restaurant that serves typical Hanok dishes. The board members and the attending spouses were treated to some very authentic old Korean dishes.

After a brief rest, the ADI sponsored the dinner for the attendees at Yeontabal, a Korean barbecue restaurant.

On December 8th, the CE symposium was conducted in the lecture room of Ray Digital Academy. This being in the South side of Seoul, a bus was chartered to bring the attendees to the RAY facility. After an introduction to the facility of RAY, the CE symposium resumed.

Dr. Cheol Yeon Kim: Implant occlusion.

Dr. S. M. Balaji: Managing obstructive sleep apnea in general dental practice.

Dr. Soo Bok Her: AI interpretation of the panoramic radiograph.

Dr. Gerhard Seeberger: More than esthetics: the whens, why of zirconia implants.

Dr. Senichi Suzuki (through Zoom): Extending your healthy life expectancy with implants.

This was followed by the ADI board meeting. Dr. Park had the attending Board members present an oral report. Dr. Balaji had a short presentation on the JGOH journal and it’s current status on the indexing platforms and the future plans to be adopted to improve its standing. A MOU was signed between ADI and IADDM to mutually assist each other organization in their CE endeavors by sharing speakers.

Followed by the convocation ceremony in which four members from Korea were inducted into the Asia Pacific Section. The ceremony was officiated by Dr. Jacob Park, Dr. David Hancock, Dr. Gerhard Seeberger, and Dr. Chang-Young Ahn, and the Marshal of the ceremony was Dr. Dat Giap. The incoming batch address was given by Dr. Yung Guk Park. Following the convocation, the official handing over of the Presidency to incoming President Dr. David Hancock was done, and the President’s medal and ceremonial chain were transferred from Dr. Jacob Park.

The evening concluded with a dinner at a very good Korean restaurant: Hanilkwan in Gangnam. Before the dinner, Dr. Park presented the incoming board members with their official medallions.
